December 2025 – Read & Publish Open Access agreement with IReL renewed for a further three years
The Company of Biologists is delighted to announce the renewal of its five-journal Read & Publish agreement with IReL. Building on the success of our previous partnerships, we have signed a new agreement that will run from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2028.

September 2025 – Introducing additional language abstracts
Authors submitting their articles to our journals are now welcome to include a translation of their submitted manuscript’s abstract in an additional language. The additional language can be the authors’ native language or that of the region where the work was carried out. For accepted manuscripts, the additional language abstract will be published directly following the English language abstract in the full-text and PDF versions of the published article. See this example.
Our journals also enable the display of non-Western character names for its authors. Non-Western character names can be published alongside the English versions of the names in the author list.

August 2025 – A Creative Approach to Science Communication – A Workshop by Anatolii Kozlov – 10 September 2025
Your researchers might be interested in a webinar that is being organised by the Node, our community site for and by developmental and stem cell biologists. The aim of this webinar is to show that creativity lies at the heart of the practice of science communication and to explore how an explicitly creative approach may help researchers reach the goals of their science communications projects.

July 2025 – Event carbon calculator
The Company of Biologists has launched an event carbon calculator to support the creation of sustainable events. The calculator has been designed to help event organisers to gain an insight into the carbon footprint generated by multiple aspects of an event. It also provides information on how best to mitigate your emissions. The tool is still in its beta stage. Please spread the word, test it and let us know if you have any feedback.

January 2025 – First ever impact report from Research4Life
Research4Life has announced the publication of its first ever Impact Report: “Changing the face of global research”, aimed at showing what the organisation has achieved and communicating its hopes for the future. The report shows that access to research through Research4Life has led to a 75% increase in medical research output in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
The Company of Biologists is a proud supporter of Research4Life and the great work they do.
January 2025 – Biologists @ 100 conference – 24-27 March 2025, ACC Liverpool UK
The Company of Biologists is celebrating 100 years of supporting biologists and inspiring biology. As part of our celebrations, we will be organising a unique scientific conference, Biologists @ 100 which may be of interest to your researchers.
The conference will bring together our communities, including cell biologists, developmental biologists, comparative physiologists and disease biologists. The scientific programme is a collaboration between our journals and several societies: the British Society for Cell Biology, the British Society for Developmental Biology and the Society for Experimental Biology. Our plenary lectures will consider topics of importance to the whole biological community: biodiversity and climate change, health and disease, and emerging technologies. Find out more/register.
