December 2022 – Nine more institutions join our Read & Publish agreement with CAUL
We are delighted to announce that the number of institutions participating in our three-year Read & Publish agreement with CAUL will increase from 11 to 20 in 2023. All existing participants have chosen to renew, a further nine institutions will be joining in 2023, and 15 institutions have opted for our five-journal package.

November 2022 – The Company of Biologists signs agreement with Gemini Bilgi Teknolojileri in Turkey
We are delighted to announce that we have signed an exclusive agreement with Gemini Bilgi Teknolojileri to represent us in Turkey.
We are excited about opportunities to expand our Read & Publish programme in Turkey through this new partnership, following a successful free trial earlier this year in association with ANKOS (the Anatolian University Libraries consortium) which involved over 200 institutions.

October 2022 – Shelly Turner joins The Company of Biologists
We are delighted to welcome Shelly Turner to the new role of Head of Sales and Business Development at The Company of Biologists.
Shelly has worked in academic publishing for over 30 years, most recently as Head of Sales at Manchester University Press, and she has considerable experience of the scholarly communication landscape internationally. She will lead an expanded sales, customer services and library marketing team to build on the success of the Company’s Read & Publish Open Access (OA) initiative.

August 2022 – 2023 journal pricing
We are pleased to announce that price changes for The Company of Biologists’ journals in 2023 will range from a decrease of 0.65% to an increase of 1.58% following the application of our double-dipping policy.
August 2022 – Another institution in Zimbabwe joins our Read & Publish initiative
The African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) is the eighth institution in Zimbabwe to join our Read & Publish Open Access initiative (via our agreement with EIFL).
Our agreement with EIFL also enables corresponding authors at any institution in Zimbabwe (and 29 other countries) to publish accepted research articles Open Access without charge in Development, Journal of Cell Science and Journal of Experimental Biology.
July 2022 – Over 500 institutions in 39 countries now participating in our Read & Publish initiative
We are delighted to announce that the number of institutions participating in our cost-neutral Read & Publish Open Access (OA) initiative has more than doubled since June 2021 – from 253 to 522. 39 countries are now represented – an increase of over 50% in the last year.
This success has contributed to a significant growth in the proportion of OA research content in our hybrid journals – Development, Journal of Cell Science and Journal of Experimental Biology – which were the first to be afforded Transformative Journal status by Plan S.

The National Library is the first institution in the Maldives to join our Read & Publish Open Access initiative via our landmark agreement with Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL).
Our agreement with EIFL also enables corresponding authors at any institution in the Maldives (and 29 other countries) to publish accepted research articles Open Access without charge in Development, Journal of Cell Science and Journal of Experimental Biology.
June 2022 – First institution in Finland joins our Read & Publish initiative
University of Turku is the first institution in Finland to join our Read & Publish Open Access initiative.
June 2022 – The Company of Biologists joins Jisc’s Publication Router service
We are delighted to announce that we are now providing full-text Open Access articles for distribution to UK institutional repositories via Jisc’s Publications Router service.
June 2022 – First institution in Mexico joins our Read & Publish initiative
Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México is the first institution in Mexico to join our Read & Publish Open Access initiative.
June 2022 – First institutions from Malawi join our Read & Publish initiative
African Bible College, Kamuzu University of Health Sciences and Mzuzu University are the first institutions in Malawi to join our Read & Publish Open Access initiative via our landmark agreement with Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL).

We are delighted to announce a new Read & Publish agreement with the Bibsam Consortium in Sweden which runs until 31 December 2024.
May 2022 – ANKOS in Turkey begins two-month free trial
219 institutional members of the Anatolian University Libraries Consortium (ANKOS) will have free trial access to Development, Journal of Cell Science and Journal of Experimental Biology until 5 July 2022.

TSU National Science Library is the latest institution in Georgia to join our Read & Publish Open Access initiative via our agreement with EIFL.

February 2022 – Read & Publish agreements drive significant growth in Open Access research content
Over 430 institutions in 34 countries are now participating in our Read & Publish initiative. This success has led to a significant increase in the proportion of Open Access research content in our hybrid subscription journals, which were the first from any publisher to be afforded Transformative Journal status by Plan S.
February 2022 – Institutions in two additional countries join our Read & Publish initiative
Alte University in Georgia and Machakos University in Kenya are the first institutions in their respective countries to join our Read & Publish Open Access initiative via our landmark agreement with Electronic Information for Libraries (EIFL).
Our agreement with EIFL also enables corresponding authors at any institution in Georgia and Kenya (and 28 other countries) to publish accepted research articles Open Access without charge in Development, Journal of Cell Science and Journal of Experimental Biology.

January 2022 – New three-year Read & Publish agreement with the Council of Australian University Librarians
We are delighted to announce that we have signed a new three-year Read & Publish Open Access agreement with the Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL) from 1 January 2022 – 31 December 2024.

January 2022 – Transformative Journal targets for Open Access growth exceeded
The Company of Biologists’ three hybrid journals – Development, Journal of Cell Science and Journal of Experimental Biology – were the first in the world to be afforded Transformative Journal status by Plan S. We are delighted to announce that all three journals exceeded their targets for Open Access growth in 2021, and that the success of our Read & Publish initiative was an important driver.
