Read & Publish for libraries

Read & Publish agreements are available to individual libraries.

Pricing is calculated on the basis of current subscription spend plus the annual average APC spend over the last three years.

Read & Publish agreements include unlimited access to new issues plus the complete archive of Development, Journal of Cell Science and the Journal of Experimental Biology – even if your library does not currently subscribe to them all. Agreements also include unlimited fee-free OA research articles published in our journals by corresponding authors.

Read & Publish for library consortia

Read & Publish agreements are available to library consortia.

Consortia Read & Publish deals are priced on the number of institutions within the consortium wishing to participate and their historic publishing and subscription spend.

We are delighted to have signed Read & Publish agreements with three leading national library consortia – Jisc in the UK and MALMAD in Israel and IReL in Ireland. We look forward to signing many more.

Matthew Freeman, Chairman of The Company of Biologists and Head of the Dunn School of Pathology, University of Oxford, said:

We are thrilled to sign our first Read & Publish agreements with Jisc and MALMAD. As a small not-for-profit publisher, this important new initiative strengthens our support for the biological community and represents an important step in our open access journey.

Kathryn Spiller, Jisc Licensing Manager, said:

We are delighted that The Company of Biologists has joined the small group of not-for-profit publishers who are pushing the open access agenda in offering an affordable ‘read and publish’ agreement to UK universities for 2020/2021.

Sally Lowell, Professor of Stem Cell Biology and Early Development at the University of Edinburgh, UK, said

“I was delighted to have our paper accepted for publication in Development but the cherry on the cake was learning that our paper would be published Open Access for zero pounds and zero pence without me having to do anything.

I’d heard of Read & Publish deals and knew that many universities, including mine, had signed up to them but I had not previously understood the benefits that these deals bring to authors who work at those universities.”
