Welcome to our library hub
The Company of Biologists is a not-for-profit journal publisher with a mission to advance excellence in the biological and biomedical sciences.
We partner with libraries and library consortia worldwide to maximise the dissemination of high-quality research.
We publish five specialist peer-reviewed journals:
- three subscription journals: Development, Journal of Cell Science and Journal of Experimental Biology
- two Open Access journals: Disease Models & Mechanisms and Biology Open.
Our journals are moving to the Silverchair platform on Thursday 15 April. Find out more.
Read & Publish Open Access agreements
We were one of the first not-for-profit publishers to launch a cost-neutral Read & Publish initiative. Since launch in November 2019, we have signed Read & Publish agreements with five library consortia and over 200 institutions in 16 countries are now participating.
Unlimited access to all our subscription journals and their archives is available to researchers at participating institutions, and corresponding authors benefit from uncapped, immediate and fee-free Open Access publication of research articles.
Our Read & Publish agreements also support institutions and researchers working to meet funding requirements.
Subscriptions
Online-only subscriptions and combined print/online subscriptions to Development, Journal of Cell Science and Journal of Experimental Biology are available to institutions.

Migration to Silverchair
Our five peer-reviewed journals will be moving to the Silverchair publishing platform on Thursday 15 April 2021. We are very excited about the enhancements to user experience, discoverability and admin functionality that the move will bring.
Launch is scheduled for the afternoon of 15 April (UK time) and we are working hard to ensure a seamless and transparent transition for libraries, administrators and users. We are also taking the opportunity to review and improve the services that we provide to our library and discovery partners more generally.
