What authors at institutions participating in the Bibsam agreement say:
Andreas Fahlman, Linkoping University, Sweden
“Journal of Experimental Biology has long been one of my favorite journals, and the opportunity to publish open access through the Bibsam Consortium agreement is a fantastic way to maximize the reach of our research. For methods papers in particular, open access is invaluable: it allows new tools and approaches to be shared widely and used immediately by the community. We were excited to publish this work open access so it could reach researchers who may benefit directly from these methods and help advance their own science.”

Philipp Kaldis, Lund University, Sweden
“We are delighted that our paper was published in Journal of Cell Science not only because we addressed a long-standing question in the CDK2/cell cycle regulation field but also because the Read & Publish agreement with Lund University facilitated Open Access publication. We strongly believe that publishing Open Access is the best way to give back to society”

Markus Tamás, University of Gothenburg, Sweden
“I have been a reader and fan of Journal of Cell Science since my graduate studies and I value the high quality offered by the journal at all levels, from rigorous peer review to Open Access publication. I am very pleased that The Company of Biologists and the University of Gothenburg have a Read & Publish agreement as this greatly facilitates the publication process and allows us to share our findings with a wide audience without affecting our research budget.”
Claudio Cantù, Linköping University, Sweden
“I and my lab have greatly benefited from the Read & Publish agreement that The Company of Biologists has with our University in Linköping. It alleviates the increased yet inevitable costs for Open Access publishing, which for me is a fundamental, non-negotiable factor. The Company of Biologists is a force of good in this world, promoting transparent knowledge, providing fair and professional peer reviewing, and now impacting ecosystems by literally planting trees—what an incredible initiative. I wonder why scientists would wish to publish in other journals! Thank you!”

Erik Stattin, National Library of Sweden/Bibsam Consortium, Sweden
“We are delighted with the renewal of the Read & Publish agreement between The Company of Biologists and the Bibsam Consortium. The agreement means that researchers at participating institutions can continue to publish an unlimited number of Open Access articles in all five of the Company’s journals, alongside read access. The agreement also means that we continue to advance Open Science with a small, not-for-profit publisher that additionally celebrates the work of scientists, including those from Bibsam member institutions, with its biodiversity initiative, The Forest of Biologists.”
Erdinc Sezgin, Karolinska Institute, Sweden
“Open science is key for our collective knowledge. I find this Read & Publish agreement between The Company of Biologists and Karolinska Institutet very valuable for this endeavour. Thanks to this collaboration, our paper in Journal of Cell Science can reach a wider audience.”
Elisa Thoral, Lund University, Sweden
“In research, it is essential to have access to knowledge, and therefore to the numerous articles published in all the different fields. For this reason, I am grateful that Lund University is part of the Read & Publish agreement with The Company of Biologists, which has enabled me to publish my latest article in Biology Open in an Open Access format.”

Alexander Hansson, University of Gothenburg, Sweden
“The importance of Open Access for science cannot be emphasized enough, as it increases the accessibility of our research to both the public and institutions without journal subscriptions. My institution has a Read & Publish agreement with The Company of Biologists, and opting for Open Access publication not only incurred no cost in terms of our research funds but was also very easy to apply for in their application system. Such Open Access agreements between journals and institutions are a great step forward towards making science accessible to all – researchers and readers alike.”

Anders Hedenström, Lund University, Sweden
“I think that publicly funded research should be freely available. To have our paper published Open Access free of charge, thanks to the Read & Publish initiative, was simply awesome, and it only took a few clicks to arrange.”

Rickesh Patel, Lund University, Sweden
“My co-authors and I are very grateful to publish our paper Open Access in Journal of Experimental Biology without charge as part of my institution’s Read & Publish agreement with The Company of Biologists. We are happy to know that individuals who may not have the privilege of having access to the journal via their institution will nonetheless have access to our publication free of charge.”
