I already knew about the outstanding reputation of Disease Models & Mechanisms (DMM) and The Company of Biologists. However, when I learned that the University of Florida has a Read & Publish agreement that included free Open Access publication in DMM, I was delighted. The submission, review, and publication stages of our article exceeded my expectations. Perhaps, the biggest surprise was that they planted a tree in The Forest of Biologists in recognition of our article. This initiative is lovely. I encourage any university to support their investigators by providing them the opportunity to publish free, Open Access, and high quality articles through similar agreements.
We are pleased with the Read & Publish agreement between The Company of Biologists and the University of Mississippi Medical Center. As well as providing our researchers access to the Company’s five specialist biological journals, this agreement allows our researchers to publish Open Access at no cost, making their research accessible to the global academic health community.
Our recent access to a fee-free Open Access publication of our manuscript under the Read & Publish agreement between The Company of Biologists and our institution is a great publishing option for us. In recent years it has become increasingly challenging to meet escalating publication costs from our operating budget. This Read & Publish agreement now provides us with an excellent, high-quality portal for our publications without affecting our operating budget.
Thanks to the fee-free Open Access Read & Publish agreement between The Company of Biologists and McGill University, I have been able to share our research with the global scientific community, quickly and effectively. As an early career scientist, I am very happy to reach this goal and to have the opportunity to publish our article in Journal of Experimental Biology, one of the most renowned journals in the world.
I am very grateful to The Company of Biologists and Johns Hopkins University for the Read & Publish Open Access agreement. Open access as practiced by not-for-profit journals such as Development provides a critical counterweight to current disturbing trends in scientific publishing. The Company of Biologists’ Read & Publish initiative is a model for how scientific publishing can move forward while preserving critical assessment of manuscripts and providing a respected platform for research presentation.
I’m a longtime fan of The Company of Biologists’ journals, both in terms of the content curation, community interaction, and rigor in the review and editing process. So I was very pleased to find that my institution is participating in the Read & Publish agreement. The arrangement works well for researchers who have a straightforward and seamless path to Open Access publishing in great journals, and for the research community at large by supporting Open Access. I hope to participate again soon.
I didn’t realize this fee-free Open Access agreement ever existed until I discovered the partnership between The Company of Biologists and the University of California. I’m extremely grateful. The entire editing process was smooth and efficient, allowing our article to reach readers worldwide very quickly. Overall, I had a wonderful publishing experience with Journal of Experimental Biology.
I am grateful to The Company of Biologists and University of Pittsburgh for the Read & Publish Open Access agreement. Open Access as provided by Journal of Cell Science delivers a critical relief to the current difficult situation in research funding. This is especially vital for new independent investigators having limited funds to support their research and publications.
I am very happy with the agreement between The Company of Biologists and the University of Toronto. With the rising costs of publication, I was delighted to know that we could publish our paper for free in Development, as it is very difficult to afford publishing fees, especially when operating grants are more difficult to get. This has allowed me to invest the money saved in my lab so we can hopefully publish in Development again.
When selecting a journal, I saw that the University of Guelph is in a Read & Publish agreement with The Company of Biologists. This made submitting to Biology Open an easy decision as I’d like to support Open Access and this agreement made it affordable.
