The evolution of social diversity in a cooperative microbe

Gregory Velicer

Department of Environmental Systems Science, Institute of Integrative Biology, ETH Zürich, Switzerland

Recent work has revealed immense intra-specific diversity in the social identities of cooperative microbes. My talk will highlight such patterns of social diversity in the model cooperative bacterium Myxococcus xanthus and recent work to understand the evolutionary origins and maintenance of this diversity.
