Integrative Ecological Neurobiology in Changing Environments

This Workshop will bring together established and emerging scientists from across the Global South, alongside select international speakers. The programme emphasises diverse disciplines and approaches, with attendees working across neurobiology, physiology, ecology, genomics, and environmental science, to explore how nervous systems respond to natural and human-induced environmental change.
The ultimate goal is to empower Global South researchers – especially from Latin America – to lead this emerging field and foster global collaboration. By uncovering mechanisms of resilience and vulnerability in wild animals, the Workshop will catalyse a new era of ecological neurobiology in a changing world.
This Workshop will:
- Feature talks and brainstorming sessions with leaders across disciplines
- Highlight emerging technologies bridging laboratory, field, and environmental research
- Identify local species for coordinated regional research efforts
- Integrate neurobiology with organismal homeostasis
- Address both terrestrial and aquatic environments
- Identify research needs, priorities, opportunities, and challenges in Latin America
- Develop roadmaps for transdisciplinary collaboration
- Help build regional and global research networks
- Provide training guidelines for science communication and education
- Connect researchers with funders, policymakers, and conservation agencies
- Plan publication(s) synthesising and distilling the Workshop’s key insights

Early-career researchers
Application closes on 6 November 2026.
We offer 20 funded places for early-career researchers from the Global South* to attend our Workshops alongside our invited speakers. We define early-career researchers (ECRs) as anyone from postdocs to Principal Investigators (PIs) who have completed their PhD in the last 7 years, although there may be flexibility in some cases. We are looking for applications from scientists spanning diverse areas from neurobiology, physiology, ecology, genomics, and environmental science. Please provide details of your current research in your application, even if your research is not directly related to the topic of this meeting.
If you would like to attend, please complete the online application form and include a maximum two-page CV listing your most relevant qualifications. We also require a letter of support from your host (postdocs) or a head of school/head of lab/senior staff member if you are no longer a postdoc. If you are already a PI then you are not required to provide a letter of support. Letters can be submitted through the registration system, or sent to us directly by the author if preferred. Selected participants will need to present a flash talk presentation during the Workshop. All attendees are expected to actively contribute to the Workshop by asking questions at presentation sessions and taking part in discussions, as well as giving a short talk about their research. Please be aware the language in this workshop will be English.
N.B. We are accepting applications from Global South ECRs only for this Workshop.
Accommodation, food and Workshop costs will be covered for all attendees.
Travel grants
As part of our commitment to supporting researchers in Global South regions, we will be providing travel grants to successful early-career researchers. Travel grant details:
- Applicant must be based in a Global South Country
- We require a supporting statement detailing why funding is required
- Maximum £700 per person
As our Workshop is to support local scientific research, applications from Argentina and South America will be given priority during selection.
