Equity, diversity and inclusion at The Company of Biologists

13 August 2025

The Company of Biologists is committed to improving equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in all our activities. We believe that diversity – in areas including but not limited to geography, race, ethnicity, gender and career stage – is essential to our work as a not-for-profit publishing organisation dedicated to supporting and inspiring the biological community.

As an organisation that has adopted the C4DISC Joint Statement of Principles, and a founding signatory of the Joint commitment for action on inclusion and diversity in publishing, The Company of Biologists recognises the current threats to the pursuit of EDI, and their negative impacts on many of our authors, reviewers, readers, editors, grant awardees and meeting participants. We strongly believe that every community must embrace diversity to reach its full potential, and our Company is no different. As such, we will continue to work actively towards implementing policies and practices that support diversity in everything we do, and to ensure an inclusive culture at The Company of Biologists.

Our values and vision align with those of C4DISC and the Joint commitment, in aiming to foster a socially just and diverse community within scientific publishing. The value of a diverse and inclusive community to The Company of Biologists and to science more widely is too important to ignore.
