Being able to publish our article fee-free as Open Access through the Read & Publish agreement between my institution (IISER, Pune) and The Company of Biologists was extremely valuable. The agreement removed financial barriers at a critical stage of publication, allowing us to focus only on the science communicated. This also ensured our work was immediately and freely accessible to the global research community. This made Read & Publish a straightforward and equitable choice, something I hope more journals consider offering.
