We are excited to release our event carbon calculator for academic events.
We are keen to support biologists and organisers in the process of creating academic events and we encourage them to reflect on the CO2 emissions that these events will generate. We acknowledge the difficulty of developing a sustainable strategy with minimal guidance, so we created an event carbon calculator to help gain insight over the main drivers of the CO2 emissions generated by their event.
This calculator can estimate the carbon footprint of past or future events in approximately five minutes. It requires minimal data input and generates a detailed report containing recommendations and scenarios for you to test. Finally, we provide further resources to aid you in developing your sustainable strategy.
Please note that this calculator helps organisers gain insight into what drives CO2 emissions in an event and provides estimates rather than exact numbers. Our purpose is to inform biologists and academic event organisers about the sustainable actions that can be taken when organising an event and to help them make more informed decisions. This calculator provides information specifically about the carbon footprint, addressing one aspect involved in planning a sustainable event. Other aspects like social sustainability and transparency have a strong contribution to achieve sustainable goals and should be considered by the event organisers. We recommend reading the ‘Learn more’ section of the calculator for further resources on how to drive a positive social impact in your event.
Visit our event carbon calculator, try out its features and start thinking about ways to minimise the environmental impact of your event. We hope that you will find these new resources helpful and easy to use. We are really excited to hear your feedback, so please email sustainability@biologists.com with your thoughts.
